[2008 Convention]

[Hull-Rust Pit]The MRHS convention is being held in Hibbing at the Park Hotel. It has been a number of years since a convention was held in Hibbing.

This year MRHS is approaching the model and photo contests a little differently. Instead of a judged contest, MRHS encourages all members to bring to bring their models and photographs for display and discussion of modeling techniques. For those wishing to be considered for the "John C. Gilbert Best of Show" award, the MRHS will assign numbers to your model and photograph entry. All convention members will vote for which model/photo in their opinion best represents the Missabe. The change is being made to encourage more participation and sharing of ideas.

Also, on the way back home from the convention, stop at the Northern Trackers Model Railroad Club. They are located in a large building at 35170 County Road #3 in Cross Lake, Minnesota. There are four model railroad layouts at the club and there will be numerous Missabe models in operation and the chance for MRHS members to run their models. A map will be provided at the convention.

CHANGES TO THE WEBSITE

Additions and updates have been made in both the prototype and modeling sections.

In the prototype area, 78 photos have been added, of which four are in the MOW roster on the "Missabe Prototype" page. A new roster has been created for non-ore freight cars, with almost all of the 71 photos courtesy of MRHS board member Doug Buell. The Missabe had need for other kinds of freight cars other than ore cars. Three photos of the rare SW-9s have been added to the diesel roster.

Another new section in the "Missabe Prototype" section is "Preserved Depots." This is yet to be fully completed, but will be a few days after the August convention.

The "Missabe Modeling" page has been updated with new information supplied by MRHS President Jon Peterson and viewers of the web site. Includes photos of models finished in Missabe livery done by skilled modeler Milt Spanton.
