The MRHS offers a growing line of decals for sale. These are custom designed model railroad decals produced from our artwork by Don Manlick Decals. Available only in HO scale. Click on link in the table to see what the decal looks like or the prototype it is used on.

Diesel "U of M" scheme lettering #20

Era: 1990's to present Available Scale: HO Scale Price: $2.25 postpaid Color: Maroon and yellow lettering and numbers on maroon car body Models Available: Overland has imported brass SD-38, SD-38-2 and SD-45-T2 models. No correct plastic models exist. Application Notes: This set is to be used with Microscale's HO diesel set to achieve the new "U of M" lettering scheme now being used by the Missabe. Items in this set will be used in place of their counterparts in the Microscale set. Two versions over lettering are known to exist, with close and open spacing. Both styles of MISSABE are provided.

Class K5 K6 K7 50' Flat - diesel era #17

Era: 1966 to present Available Scale: HO Scale Price: $2.00 postpaid Color: Yellow lettering on maroon car body Models Available: Life-Like Proto-2000 and Athearn, perhaps others, make good 50-foot flats. Application Notes: All flats in this series were received from the EJ&E. Two lettering styles were used. Only the over-width cars 6315 and 6316 used the extra stenciling "RETURN EMPTY TO..." and "WIDE CAR..." provided in this set. Class K5, series 6315-6316 were received in 1966 and are the two extra-width cars. Class K6, series 6325-6339 were received in 1969 and did not have end racks. Class K7, series 6340-6354 were received in 1969 and did have end racks for pulp loading.

Class V5 V6 V7 V8 Gondola - diesel era #16

Era: 1966 to present Available Scale: HO Scale Price: $2.50 postpaid Color: Yellow lettering on maroon car body Models Available: Gondolas from Proto 2000 and Athearn. Application Notes: On the decal sheet, each "V" Class is positioned under its appropriate weight stencils. The Missabe applied two different lettering styles to its cars. Both are provided. Some cars had end racks, others did not. Be sure to refer to prototype photos for accuracy in modeling.

Class Q Cement Hoppers #15

Era: 1941 to 1980's Available Scale: HO Scale Price: $2.50 postpaid Color: Black lettering on gray car body Models Available: Bowser offers a good model of this car. It comes factory lettered in Missabe, however, the herald and class number are incorrect. Application Notes: The Missabe ordered three runs of the cement hopper. All were lettered in the same style, differing in weight stencils and builders marks. The appropriate class number is positioned under the correct weight stencil on the decal sheet. Class Q3, series 4950-4960, built by ACF in 1941. Class Q4, series 4961-4969, built by PS in 1952. Class Q8, series 4970-4989, built by PS in 1956

HMA Ballast Car - diesel era #14

Era: 1972 to present Available Scale: HO Scale Price: $2.00 postpaid Color: Maroon lettering on yellow car body Models Available: Walthers makes good taconite cars that can be used as a starting point for this model. Hopper doors must be modified. Application Notes: Series 1400-1469. Rebuilt from DM&IR ore cars of various classes in 1972 and 1978, these cars had special side extensions to increase capacity, and also received special Morrison-Knudsen ballast doors. The cars are used in service across the DM&IR as needed.

Sand Cars - HMA and LO #13

Era: 1965 to present Available Scale: HO Scale only Price: $2.00 postpaid Color: Yellow lettering on maroon car body Models Available: Bowser makes a correct LO, and Walthers makes good ore/tac cars that can be used as a starting point for the HMA cars. Application Notes: Both 2-bay covered hoppers from the Q8 cement hopper series, and HMA ore cars from various U-class series were converted for locomotive sand service. In 1965, the Missabe began converting five ore cars to sand service, giving them special side extensions and a covered-hopper style roof. The decal sheet provides each of the five numbers. In 1972, the Missabe converted four Q8 covered hoppers, 4986-4989, to sand cars.
