DM&IR 412 and 403 (along with a CN/IC SD40-3) lead a Minntac empty through Gilbert on the evening of May 3, 2008. Even four years after the CN takeover, finding Missabe locomotives leading ore trains on the Iron Range wasn't all that rare. However, it would soon become difficult with many maroon engines leaving the roster in 2008. The 412 was retired by CN in July 2008, while the 403 remains the last maroon tunnel motor on CN's roster.
