DM&IR No. 604 pulling loaded ore cars on the Spirit Lake Branch near Adolph on June 4, 1953. The ore is most likely headed for the Duluth Works or possibly to interchange along the Interstate Branch. The 0-10-2 engines the Missabe acquired from its sister Union Railroad were the largest switch engines ever built, with 90,900 pounds of tractive effort. Collection of Jim Miller.
